Our Story
Born from the ice. Built for the community.
Where It Started
SledHockey.org was born from Wings of Steel, a youth sled hockey team in South Jersey. Like most sled hockey teams, Wings of Steel ran on Facebook groups, email chains, and a lot of word of mouth.
There was no proper web presence. No way for new players to find the team online. No fundraising infrastructure. No centralized place for schedules, rosters, or team news.
We built a website for Wings of Steel — and then realized every sled hockey team faces the exact same challenges. That's when SledHockey.org was born.
The Problem
Most sled hockey teams don't have a website. They rely on Facebook groups, scattered emails, and word of mouth.
- New players can't find teams in their area
- Teams can't raise money online effectively
- Schedules are buried in group chats
- There's no professional presence to attract sponsors or media
- Generic website builders don't understand the needs of adaptive sports teams
The Solution
SledHockey.org is a platform built specifically for sled hockey teams. Not a generic website builder — a purpose-built tool with everything a team needs:
- Professional team website on your own subdomain
- Built-in fundraising and donation tools
- Schedule management for games and practices
- Roster management and team news
- SEO that helps new players find your team
And it's free to get started — because access to technology shouldn't be a barrier for adaptive sports teams.
Our Mission
Make sled hockey more accessible through technology. Every team deserves a home base — a place where players, families, sponsors, and fans can connect.
The Team Behind It
SledHockey.org is led by David Wiederholt and the Wings of Steel organization. Wings of Steel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to making sled hockey accessible to young athletes.
We're sled hockey people building tools for sled hockey people. Every decision is made with the community in mind.
